Basically you just need the peg system。 If you go through and memorize the Peg Words you’ve got the essence of the book applied to various situations。 Would have been much more valuable to learn in elementary or middle school for study。
A,
i like this book。 it has very cool tricks to help you remember stuff, and its fun but time taking if your mind is not that creative。
John,
Pretty interesting methods in here。 I know that some of it will stick。 And some of it。。。not so much。
Warner,
Not what I was looking for
Zoe Wilkerson,
This book could be half the length it is but it is INCREDIBLY effective。 I’ve been naming the presidents in order every night since reading about peg words。 I highly recommend literally that chapter and the imagining numbers chapter and the rest is basically just examples。
Luis Monroy,
EVERYONE should read this。 My son will learn these techniques to make his life so much easier than mine was when it came to studying。 This book was a life saver for me。
Cory,
A very unique approach to memory training w/tangible, practical approaches to remember any & everything from names to numbers to entire lists。 A very visual & imagery-centric guide, so if this is not your strong suit, will take some work。 But overall user friendly & attainable to all。
Sergey Dudko,
A very practical and well written book with basic and advanced memory techniques。Great book。To remember things: create ridiculous associations, exaggerate images, add actionDissect words to build associations。 For example, Arizona become air zoneHave one image for each major speech idea and link them togetherSystem to remember names: 1。 Remember name 2。 Remember face 3。 Attach name to face
Andy,
The techniques in this book helped me graduate university back in 2012。I had to memorise dozens and dozens of authors, year of publication and a summary of their findings。 I had no idea where to start and reading this book helped me so much。I don't know how this compares to modern day memory books, but I can't imagine the techniques differ drastically, but they may be more visually engaging。 The techniques in this book helped me graduate university back in 2012。I had to memorise dozens and dozens of authors, year of publication and a summary of their findings。 I had no idea where to start and reading this book helped me so much。I don't know how this compares to modern day memory books, but I can't imagine the techniques differ drastically, but they may be more visually engaging。 。。。more

It did have some real memory techniques。 But a more updated book should have more data about the efficiency of different systems。 I also think a the book should have more pictures since it's emphasizing that humans have a better visual memory than word memory; well than show some suggested images。 It did have some real memory techniques。 But a more updated book should have more data about the efficiency of different systems。 I also think a the book should have more pictures since it's emphasizing that humans have a better visual memory than word memory; well than show some suggested images。 。。。more

It's not the regular book to read。 It's a book to keep in your memory 。。。 or at least at your desk。 Going over exercises and techniques provided in this book will really improve your memory skills。 In addition to that it was fun to read it。 It's not the regular book to read。 It's a book to keep in your memory 。。。 or at least at your desk。 Going over exercises and techniques provided in this book will really improve your memory skills。 In addition to that it was fun to read it。 。。。more
MaxC,
I enjoyed this book a lot, I think it is a good introduction to memory improvement。 The fact that it was written in the 1970s will be clear by some of the language used in the book, but the techniques are still useful。 Make sure you use the techniques and fine-tune them to apply them to you。 Reading about them without application is not useful。
Megan Marie,
This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I can see some useful ideas out of this book。 If you have a lot of time on your hands, and enjoy doing memory games then this is ideal。 I will use the Link system and maybe some peg words, but overall writing things down is still going to be more efficient for me personally。 This book is also very repetitive。 I decided not to finish the last few chapters and move on to something else。 DNF。
Janani Kalpathi,
Not a page turner after the first 4 or 5 chaptersThis is a book on improving your memory by using a combination of systems and associations to remember common things such as names, places, telephone numbers, appointments etc。 The first couple of concepts on Link and Substitution were great and then it got quite repetitive through the rest of the chapters。 I guess once you 'memorize' a few tricks it can basically be applied to many areas of life。 By a few hacks, I was able to memorize all 50 stat Not a page turner after the first 4 or 5 chaptersThis is a book on improving your memory by using a combination of systems and associations to remember common things such as names, places, telephone numbers, appointments etc。 The first couple of concepts on Link and Substitution were great and then it got quite repetitive through the rest of the chapters。 I guess once you 'memorize' a few tricks it can basically be applied to many areas of life。 By a few hacks, I was able to memorize all 50 states of the US alphabetically。 That said, for the rest it does get quite repetitive and will take time and patience to memorize the remaining memory systems。 。。。more

This really is a classic。 By Harry Lorayne, "The Yoda of Memory Training", who has introduced ancient and new mnemonic techniques to the modern world。 The book is written with simplicity, it contains a lot of practical exercises and examples。 I was able to skim-read and take what I needed from it。 It's a good resource for anyone wanting to develop systems to improve their memory。 This really is a classic。 By Harry Lorayne, "The Yoda of Memory Training", who has introduced ancient and new mnemonic techniques to the modern world。 The book is written with simplicity, it contains a lot of practical exercises and examples。 I was able to skim-read and take what I needed from it。 It's a good resource for anyone wanting to develop systems to improve their memory。 。。。more

This book offers some good tips and drills for remembering all manner of information。 Some of the drills do require practice so be warned!
Kaven Tan,
High recommend! A book which enriches and expands imagination in ways never thought of, changes the way you view surrounding and the world。 A fascinating book with tons of "memory system" that can be beneficial to anyone, as memory is the fundamental of learning。 High recommend! Emily Noyes,
I mean, It helped me I guess and it had some useful information, but once you got to a certain point in the book, it was basically just a repeat of previous ideas, applied to something else。 If you want to remember more, I would recommend this book, but other than that, I would stay away。
Thomas,
Law/law starsGreat book, after 5 days I still remember the list of words from the first chapter。 I think everyone should learn the techniques mentioned in this book。
Erwin Leonardy,
This is perhaps one of the most practical books I have read so far。 The authors started with an introduction to the memory systems (e。g。 Association, Link, Substitute Words, and Peg Words) before giving an array of real-world examples in which we could apply to our daily lives; these examples show us that we can apply these memory systems to practically any memory chores we have。 That’s why I gave this book 5/5 stars!
Matthias Swonger,
After reading Moonwalking with Einstein, I wanted to read more of a how-two memory/mnemonics book。 This book provides some helpful idea and insights, but it is also outdated in a lot of ways。
Alex Laser,
Worth the read if you're willing to stop and practice their silly exercises seriously like a school workbook。 Too many mnemonists uses the loci method which is effective but too slow and impractical for daily life。 These guys make a case for linking and peg systems instead。 This was actually helpful and I plan to return to the book and keep practicing their suggestions。 A necessary book to combat the brain rot caused by outsourcing our memory to smartphones and computers。 Worth the read if you're willing to stop and practice their silly exercises seriously like a school workbook。 Too many mnemonists uses the loci method which is effective but too slow and impractical for daily life。 These guys make a case for linking and peg systems instead。 This was actually helpful and I plan to return to the book and keep practicing their suggestions。 A necessary book to combat the brain rot caused by outsourcing our memory to smartphones and computers。 。。。more

The first chapters of another self-help book on mnemonics that seem to appear regularly have nothing new。 A more recent one I read Moonwalking with Einstein: the Art and Science of Remembering Everything (2012) was probably more thorough as an overview of what goes on in this arena。 Who needs to memorize the fifty states in alphabetical order from A to W and backwards? It’s enough to know their geographical location in your mind’s eye。 I did not care to go through this exercise to practice build The first chapters of another self-help book on mnemonics that seem to appear regularly have nothing new。 A more recent one I read Moonwalking with Einstein: the Art and Science of Remembering Everything (2012) was probably more thorough as an overview of what goes on in this arena。 Who needs to memorize the fifty states in alphabetical order from A to W and backwards? It’s enough to know their geographical location in your mind’s eye。 I did not care to go through this exercise to practice building a memory aid scheme。 It does get better further on。 The chapter on absentmindedness is helpful。 “Think of what you’re doing during the moment in which you’re doing it” to solve absentmindedness。 (p。 96) The authors advise to make an association each time you put down your glasses or whatever and to force yourself to make a picture association between the object and the spot where you put it and make this a habit。 (p。 97) The picture may be something ridiculous but you must be paying attention。 You must make the effort and it will become a habit quite soon。 My interest in building a mnemonic method faded except the foreign language primer perhaps。 This would have been useful before our most recent excursion into French speaking province but we have no such plans in the foreseeable future by which time this will be forgotten or hard to find。Learning to convert numbers to words is formidable task。 I simply opted out of it。 I noticed that one of the authors established himself as some kind of a magician performer。 There may be future in that for someone not for me。 。。。more

A classic book of memory techniques。 I only wish I had read this decades ago。
Eric Wang,
This is a decent book, talking abt the importance of association in memory and how to improve it。 I have found the advice very useful。 However, this book is too repetitive。 It gives a lot of examples with very similar methods sometimes。 Thus, I’ll give it 3。5 stars

A helpful guide to memory techniques。 Any reader will benefit from the methods taught, which can be applied to anything from remembering addresses and phone numbers to memorizing business information to preforming memory based card tricks。 The reader will receive as much as he puts into the methods in this book。 While the examples can become overly expansive, they demonstrate the usefulness of the systems。

The way cheaper alternative to all those meddling and costly training programs of Jim Kwik and the like :) Suggested methods really work if you practice well, some – even quite fast and with little efforts。 The thing is that with emerging technologies people no longer care about training their memory。 Each and every remembering process gets easily replaced by combination of hard- and software, in the same time putting our mind’s abilities in certain limits and even reducing these abilities (e。g。 The way cheaper alternative to all those meddling and costly training programs of Jim Kwik and the like :) Suggested methods really work if you practice well, some – even quite fast and with little efforts。 The thing is that with emerging technologies people no longer care about training their memory。 Each and every remembering process gets easily replaced by combination of hard- and software, in the same time putting our mind’s abilities in certain limits and even reducing these abilities (e。g。 attention span)。 。。。more
